4. background of Mark Flint
Mark Flint was born and raised in the UK and as been resident in Mysore India for the past 13 years, he has been a committed yoga practioner throughout that time.
Mark was diagnosed with Rheumatoid arthritis almost 20 years ago and was advised by his UK specialist to start a long term course of steroids, it was at this point that mark turned away from allopathic medicine and embarked on a course of self discovery against the disease which included diet, alternative therapy and eventually yoga.
Initially practicing Iyengar/hatha yoga until switching to ashtanga yoga in the tradition of Pattabi Jois at KPJAYI. Mark is a qualified body worker with Diplomas in Acupuncture, Acupressure and Reiki.
Ashtanga yoga is regarded as the traditional style of yoga jointly rediscovered by Krishna Macharaya and Pattabi Jois and is regarded as the inspiration behind many of the new styles being practiced in the west including power yoga. The uniqueness of Ashtanga yoga is that it is the only practice integrated with Ujjayai breathing, Bandhas, Vinyasa and Dhrishti. Currently this system of yoga has gained immense acceptance and popularity globally with thousands of students every year making the pilgrimage to Mysore to study Ashtanga yoga at KPJAYI. The authorization to teach with the blessing of KPJAYI does not come easy and requires several years of committed practice, this can be seen by the small numbers of authorized teachers both in India and worldwide of which Mark is one of the eleven KPJAYI Authorised Ashtanga yoga teachers in India.
Mark has a deep understanding of asana, pranayama and meditation and teaches in traditional style with special focus on alignment, breath, bandas and Dhristhi encouraging his students both verbally and physically optimizing each persons ability in their personal practice.
Marks asana adjustments are, gentle, precise, affective, therapeutic and originate besides from his own personal yoga practice and teaching from his experience as a body worker and as a acupuncturist and reiki healer.
Friendly and relaxed behavior gives a calm and inspirational/ motivational/ meditative, and energetic atmosphere to his classes.
Mark is developing several yoga products to aid student’s progress in their practice which includes a back bender, toe stretcher, yoga chair and mobile phone application.
Other than yoga Mark started playing golf at the age of 10 years and became a UK professional golfer and coach in his late teens, Mark is currently teaching yoga to several Indian golf professionals to enhance their skills both physically and mentally. Mark is a environmentalist at heart with a fondness for adventure and personal challenges which as taken him to some of the highest peaks in the Himalayas including Mount Everest base camp.
